I am very proud to announce that I am among the winners of the Underwater Images 2010, a non-profit international underwater photo and video competition and one of the most prestigious.
I received the Honourable Mention at MACRO/CLOSE-UP OPEN CATEGORY with a photograph taken in Chalkidiki, a region at my home country, so I am really pleased because this is a proof that you don’t have to travel abroad to warm tropical waters, so that you can enter a high profile contest.
For my agenda this contest is very important, not because of the prizes, but because of the cause behind the contest. All proceeds from the competition are donated to marine conservation and education causes and there is a certain mission behind all this: ”Inner space is a relatively new frontier for mankind that will open new horizons in science and medicine, as well as art and recreation. The purpose of the Underwater Images Photo/Video Competition is to raise the awareness of the ecological importance of preserving marine habitats that represent Nature’s oldest and most stable living ecosystems.
This will create more conscientious diving practices and generate new interests in the realm of marine environmental science and education”.
